With the semester in full swing, things are starting to pick up for Team Thailand! To recap last semester, we presented our second milestone update to the Service Learning and Advisory Board (SLAB). Although we received a lot of feedback about the scope of our project, we received a lot of positive comments about our vision and designs. The final weeks of the fall semester also gave us the time to settle on our final sink design, shown below: At the beginning of the spring semester, we evaluated our performance in the fall and opted to change up our structure pretty dramatically. Trey and Aleem were elected as co-Project Managers, and will specifically focus on logistics and technical design respectively. Within that division, the team was assigned to smaller sub-teams as demonstrated in the following graphic: These changes have produced great results so far, and we are charging ahead into drafting our designs in AutoCAD. Those drawings, along with tentative material lists and some preliminary stress calculations on each system will form the basis of our 60% design review in two weeks. That means there’s a lot of late nights ahead of us, like the one Aleem and Pooja are suffering through in this pic: There’s plenty to do on the logistics side as well, ranging from travel preparations to creating the work breakdown structure. Most exciting however, is the rekindling of our partnership with Mahidol University. Located about 40 minutes outside of Bangkok, students from the school were invaluable to last year’s team success, and we are working with them to find another cohort to join our crew in June.
Finally, in addition to all of the work we’ve been putting in, we’ve managed to find some team bonding time as well, with the most recent excursion being to Titaya’s Thai restaurant to test our tolerance for spice (a staple of Thai cuisine). While Aleem hardly blinked, the rest of us need some practice. Thanks for reading this week's post - check in next week for some more team updates! -Trey
